Securities America Names Nagengast CEO
LA VISTA, NEB. - July 26, 2010 - Securities America has named Jim Nagengast as chief executive officer. Nagengast follows Steve McWhorter, who announced his retirement in January after 23 years with the company. "Jim has been instrumental in Securities America becoming one of the premiere independent broker-dealers in the nation," McWhorter said in an announcement to the company's 400 employees and 1,900 financial advisors.
Nagengast joined Securities America in 1994 as vice president of finance. He was promoted to chief financial officer of Securities America Financial Corp. in 1997. He took responsibility for Information Services in 2000 and became chief operating officer in 2004. Nagengast was promoted to president of Securities America Inc. in August 2008.
"Working with Steve the past 16 years, I have been able to watch and learn as he led us through multiple acquisitions and five-fold growth," Nagengast said. "We have built a reputation as an industry leader in fee-based money management platforms, business growth programs, and cutting edge technology. We have crafted a great employee culture at Securities America, and I look forward to building on the strengths, traditions and shared values as its CEO."
Prior to joining Securities America, Nagengast served as vice president of Robalt Corp., a pharmaceutical firm in Avoca, Iowa, as an analyst for Merrill Lynch Capital Markets in New York City and as a consultant for Marakon Associates, in Greenwich, Conn. Nagengast graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's in economics from Harvard University and obtained a master's in business administration with emphasis in accounting and finance from Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
