LA VISTA, Neb. - Jan. 07, 2014 - Securities America employees embraced giving back this holiday season, organizing a charity drive to benefit Open Door Mission in Omaha. The Open Door Mission's powerful success stories highlight an ongoing commitment to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty through life changing recovery programs.
The drive collected 139 toys, 158 winter weather items and $1550 in monetary donations, after the company matched $775 employees raised. Volunteers also donated their time, handing out items at the Project Santa Drive Thru Christmas, which provided the parents of poor and needy children toys and other items for the holiday season.
"We are proud of the collective effort to give back to an organization like the Open Door Mission that reaches out to help so many," said Jim Nagengast, CEO and president of Securities America. "The employees of Securities America once again embraced the value we place on community through their donations of time and resources."
The Open Door Mission's campus offers 816 safe, shelter beds to homeless men, women and children. Their holiday newsletter reports 410,223 meals served and 120,568 nights of shelter provided from January through August of 2013.
The Mission's programs - the Lydia House for Women & Families, Women and Family Crisis Center, Garland Thompson Men's Center, Rebuilding Lives Center, Permanent Supportive Housing and Timberlake Outreach Center - address specific concerns of residents and clients. By addressing the causes including abuse, addiction or the inability to obtain and maintain steady employment, the Mission guides those looking to make a drastic life improvement.
