EFS Group Wealth Management Named Corporate Charitable Champion by Invest in Others
EFS Group Wealth Management, Sioux City, Iowa, was one of only 20 financial advisory firms selected for the 2019 Invest in Others Charitable Champions List. The annual program recognizes firms for giving back to their communities by promoting a culture of philanthropy among employees and financial advisors.
"Leadership plays a critical role in the success of corporate philanthropy programs," said Megan McAuley, executive director and president of Invest in Others Charitable Foundation. "With this year's Charitable Champions List, the tone from the top was key to fostering a culture of philanthropy.”
EFS Group Wealth Management’s leadership includes CEO Marc Geels, CFP®, BFA; COO Bryon Oines, BFA; and vice president of operations, Dana Baldridge, BFA.
EFS Group also employs a marketing director, Cari Kellen, BFA, whose responsibilities include managing fundraising events and donation requests. She also serves as primary point of communication for their clients, community members and local media on the firm’s charitable events, contributions and activities.
According to Invest in Others, the organization received an overwhelming number of applications, which were evaluated blindly by a judging panel made up of financial advisors. Judging criteria included employee benefits, company contributions, and the philanthropic events and programs offered by the firms.
While overall employee participation rates in the programs of firms making the Invest in Others Charitable Championship List averaged about 85 percent, the participation rate at EFS Group was 100 percent.
EFS Group Wealth Management emphasizes employee involvement in its philanthropic endeavors. The firm’s Volunteer Time Off policy provides its 11 employees up to 40 hours per year to participate in volunteer projects as a group. In 2019, EFS employees completed a collective total of 500 community service hours, averaging more than 45 hours per person.
In 2019, the firm and its employees participated in four major charitable events. For its annual Charity Golf Classic, EFS teamed up with a classic auto and motorcycle show to raise money and awareness for an Iowa nonprofit, Partners for Patriots, which provides service dogs to disabled veterans.
Funds raised through the event went to train and adopt a service dog. When employees were asked to name the military veteran canine companion, they chose – Sarge. The firm took the initiative one step further by hosting Food Truck Friday in partnership with Lowe’s Home Improvement Store. Members of the public were able to meet Sarge in person and learn more about Partners for Patriots.
